Accepting cryptocurrency for your organization

With the cryptocurrency market now worth $3 trillion, and more than $500 million in cryptocurrency expected to be donated this year, many of our partners have shared that they have turned down crypto donations because they don’t know how to accept them.

To solve this problem, FreeWill built Crypto for Charity — a public crypto donation site — so that any 501(c)3 charity in the U.S. can now easily accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency donations.

We’re excited to present a new way for donors to support the causes they love. No actions are required of our partners at this moment, but if you have questions about Crypto for Charity and accepting crypto donations, you can email crypto@freewill.com and learn more on our FAQ page for nonprofits.

From acing that subject line to implementing a successful call to action, there’s a lot that contributes to how well a fundraising email performs. We’ve done extensive research, and are so excited to provide general best practices to help your organization yield the best results.

Expanding stock giving to all FreeWill users

Stock giving is now available for all FreeWill users. Nearly 400,000 people have used FreeWill to create their estate plans, and many of them are charitable donors who own stocks and other appreciated assets. Once a user has completed their estate plan using our public tool, they now have an opportunity to explore making gifts of stock to our current stock partners.

We will be running this addition as a trial and will evaluate the performance in 2022.

End-of-year is a particularly busy time for custodians and brokerages. It can be helpful to follow up with your QCD and Stock donors to ensure they complete their donation as early as possible, so that their gift is processed and applied for the curent tax year! We've put together Stock follow-up language and QCD follow-up language to help you get started.
