A new way for donors to give privately held company stock, with no added work for your team.
Private stock (shares in a privately held company that aren't traded on public markets) is one of the largest untapped categories in charitable giving. These gifts tend to be high-impact: the average private stock gift is valued at $6 million, yet fewer than 20% of nonprofits currently have the infrastructure to accept them.
We've added a simple option within your existing stock gift flow so donors who hold private stock can now give it to your organization. This is currently available to all Smart Giving Suite and stock partners, at no cost to you.
How it works:
-
A donor selects "This is private stock" in Step 3 of the gift flow and shares a few basic details.
-
Charitable Solutions, our processing partner, reaches out to the donor within 24 hours to guide them through the next steps.
-
Charitable Solutions manages all legal review, compliance, and vetting, so there's no added lift for your team.
-
Once the asset is liquidated, your organization receives a cash grant for the full donation value.
There's no separate workflow for your team to learn. The gift will appear in your Partner Portal as a stock gift, with a notation indicating it came through as a private stock inquiry, and you'll receive the same stock gift email notification you're used to.
Your next steps:
- Watch the video above for a quick overview of how the donor experience works.
- No setup is required. Private stock giving is already active as part of your existing stock gift flow.
- If a donor has asked about giving private stock, or you'd like to talk through how this could come up for your major gift prospects, reach out to Partner Support.
